Snoop's Wine and Augmented Reality Marketing

Alexis Olive • Oct 08, 2020

19 Crimes Wines busted onto the wine scene in 2017 and brought a unique feature intended to draw in a younger tech savvy consumer base.

With the use of augmented reality paired with an app this marketing technique proved to be a success.
The California made wine is styled similar to Australian wine but the whole concept is inspired in fact by Australian history. In 1787 Britain had a list of nineteen crimes punishable by exile to Australia. Those exiled became colonists and these wines take a little peak into their stories.

While we all love a good fugitive tale, we are here for the O.G. gangster story and review. Snoop Dog's face on 19 Crimes's newest bottle is sure to bring a "contemporary lens" to the brand. He explains he is very excited to bring this collaboration to the world.

About a month ago, I was gifted a bottle for my birthday. Obviously my mom knows my preferences and the marketing efforts worked, knowing it would be right up my stoner alley. I am by no means a wine connoisseur but I would have to say that when I tasted Snoop Dog's Cali Red, I would have to say it was rich and luxurious tasting. Not no Welch's grape juice tasting stuff.

So I asked a friend with a more refined palette, local wine specialist, Kathryne Bosco. Kathryne says, that while she isn't particularly a fan of California wines, she is glad that Snoop is using his iconic image to sell any wine, but a dry wine. She was pleasantly surprised that isn't a "fruit bomb" yet a good vehicle for those that typically do like stuff on the sweeter side.

She, along with TryKushy founder, Tyler Aldridge bring up the fact that rappers have influenced wine, like popularizing Moscato in the the early 2010s. Bosco commends Snoop for bringing this wine to a new generation.

I believe this drink pairs particularly well with a blunt of Tropic Thunder, some good company and tunes. Will this be the new go-to drink in hip-hop videos, perhaps even more popular than Gin and Juice?? I'm sure Snoops hopes so.
